Political analyst Ambrose Weda now says that the issue of the bizarre Kiambu County budget has been blown out of proportion, thanks to Deputy President William Ruto's involvement.
Ruto on Sunday came out in defence of Governor Ferdinand Waititu over claims that his government allocated billions of shillings for jobs reserved for the national government, including the free primary education programme.
Weda now says that the revelation which was made on Thursday, last week, would have rested by now were it not for the DP's remarks, adding that his intervention has made it appear like a conspiracy.
"Now that Ruto has come in, it appears like a very big issue and to most, it looks like the corrupt stepping in to defend each other," he said on KBC English Service's The Big Conversation show on Wednesday morning.
He said that the governor is being wrongly accused, noting that the blame should instead be directed to the National Treasury which approves county budgets before monies are released.
Weda added that no money has been lost, stating that if the same had happened, then the county could not have afforded to pay salaries, considering that the bizarre allocations amounted to Sh2.5 billion.
In the instance that it was paid, he added, the blame again lands on the Treasury since once a budget is approved, the money is directly channeled to the proposed project.
"The budget report was just a mistake and that is the reason why the governor appears shocked. If it is real, then the Treasury should shoulder the blame and not Waititu," he noted.
