Millionaire businessman Zaheer Jhanda says he was doing gold business for the first time in his life and could not differentiate between a fake gold and a genuine one.
DCI George Kinoti on Thursday said Mr Jhanda and flamboyant politician Don Bosco Gichana are persons of interest in a gold deal that saw a Dubai Royal losing over Sh400 million.
But the Gusii based politician on Friday refuted claims that he's involved in fake gold business, adding that he has no idea what the business was all about.
"Once again, I want to set records straight. I don't know how genuine gold or fake gold looks like. It's my first time in this business. I am an investor, am was expecting genuine gold from Congo, we take it to Dubai.
"I have no clue about the fake gold business that is being peddled around. I am not involved in that business and I have no clue what it is all about," he said.
Mr Jhanda is popular for his flashy lifestyle and is generous when it comes to giving back to the society at his Gusii backyard. He has contested for Nyaribari Chache seat unsuccessfully twice.
In 2013, he lost to Dr Chris Bichage on a Jubilee ticket. In 2017, he also lost to Richard Tong'i on a Wiper ticket. He is however close to many politicians among them DP William Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.
Also linked to the business is Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula. The lawmaker has however claimed that he lost millions in the deal.
