The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has cautioned hospitals in Garissa and Mandera counties against treating individuals with gun shot wounds.
The notice comes in a time when the military men have been accused of torturing locals in Kutulo and Dabasity areas of Mandera.
Issuing the notice on Wednesday, the KDF director of operations Joseph Kanyiri warned that hospitals should report those individuals seeking medication for gunshot wounds, saying they could be Al-shabaab millitants wounded in the ongoing operation in regions bordering the Boni Forest which runs through Lamu, Garissa and Mandera counties.
“Health facilities should check on pharmaceuticals and even bandages that may eventually end up in the hands of our enemies while attending to individuals with gunshot wounds sustained in the ongoing military operation.
This notice goes to both the public and private health facilities,” stated Kanyiri.
In the statement, the KDF director indicated all their officers wounded in the operation were receiving specialised medical attention in designated hospitals.
Among the counties whose health institutions have been put on high alert are Lamu, Garissa, Mandera andTana River.
