Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has argued that former Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe’s plan to block Deputy President William Ruto from succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022 is dead on arrival.

Speaking during an interview on KTN’s Point Blank show on Wednesday, Khalwale said that he has never taken Murathe seriously as far as politics is concerned.

The vocal politician opined that Murathe is one of the least influential leaders from the Mt Kenya region, adding that Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, MPs Kimani Ichungwa and Ndidi Nyoro are among the credible leaders from the region.

“I would never take Murathe seriously. On William Ruto's side we have very credible Kikuyu leaders including Ferdinand Waititu, Kimani Ichungwa, Ndidi Nyoro and others. In fact, they are the majority,” he said.

Khalwale also noted that he is confident ODM leader Raila Odinga will contest for the nation’s top seat in the upcoming polls. He argued that the remarks of Siaya Senator James Orengo and Raila's elder brother Oburu Odinga reveal the former premier's position in the contest for the presidency.

“In my eyes, I go by what James Orengo and Oburu said. Traditionally they are the ones who let out the cat on Raila Odinga. So, Orengo and Oburu have said Raila will be on the ballot paper,” he said.
