Former Gichugu Member of Parliament Martha Karua has defended the eligibility of Deputy President William Ruto to vie as president in 2022 General elections.
Through her Twitter account, Karua argued that Ruto was constitutionally right to vie for the presidency even after serving for two terms as the Deputy President.
"Constitutionally a deputy president can vie for president despite having served for two terms as deputy," she tweeted.
Karua was however quick to distance herself from supporting or endorsing Ruto for the presidency.
"...I, however, hasten to restate that I don't support the candidature of William Ruto," Tweeted Karua. Her pinned Tweet speaks to Ruto's machinery. In the post sent out in November last year, Karua defines the DP as the least qualified to serve as the president.
"That is true! I hold the view that William Ruto is the least qualified for the job and as such would never endorse him. His campaign should desist from dragging my name along," she stated in her pinned Tweet.
The debate on DP's eligibility to vie ensued after former Jubilee Vice chairman David Murathe threatened to go to supreme court to block his candidature on account that he had equally served his term and should proceed to retirement with the president.
