Weiteithie Member of County Assembly (MCA)Julius Macharia has been remanded for five days pending investigations, after he displayed the image of Deputy President William Ruto in military gear on one of his vehicles.
Thika Magistrate Noel Kyanya ordered the police to remand the suspect at the Juja Police Station, giving the prosecution more time to collect evidence against him.
The lawmaker, whose case was recorded under OB number 93/27/5/2019, was freed momentarily before he was re-arrested by police.
The probing team also put the lawmaker on the spot over loose passenger seats, tinted windows, and colored parking bulbs.
His car also displayed the national flag which is against the law of the country.
The law only permits the President, his deputy, the Chief Justice, Kenyan diplomats when they are abroad on official duties, the Attorney General, Cabinet Secretaries, and Speakers of both the Senate and Parliament to display the flags on their convoy whenever they are in the public.
The lawmaker has, however, insisted that he is innocent.
According to the law, anyone found guilty of such offense can be fined an amount not exceeding one million, or an imprisonment not exceeding 5 years, or even both.
“A person who contravenes subsection (1) commits an offence and shall be liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding Ksh.1million or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years, or both,” States the law.
