Kesses Member of Parliament Dr Swarup Mishra has raised concerns over the increasing number of patients travelling to India to seek medical services.
The MP now claims a majority of the patients are lured to travel to India by medical brokers and conmen out to gain financially.
Addressing the press after a public event where he handed over a bus to Koiluget secondary school and cows to women at Tarakwa Chief's office on Tuesday, Mishra noted that some of the patients can be treated in local hospitals but are misled that the services can only be offered in India.
"Unnecessary cases are diverted to India in the name of commercial and materialistic basis. This has become a regular business by those agents and out to syphon patients who can be treated here," noted Mishra.
The MP who is the Vice-chair of the National Parliament Health Committee revealed that he will be tabling a bill that if passed will see all patients vetted by the Kenya Medica Board before being allowed to travel to India or abroad for any treatment.
"We need patients going for treatment outside the country vetted and confirmed that their cases cannot be handled locally. This is the only way we can stop those brokers from fleecing unsuspecting Kenyans," insisted Mishra, who is also the proprietor of the Mediheal Group of Hospitals.
