The opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has released a list of people from which the party will pick a candidate who will fly its flag for the Migori Senatorial by-election.
The list released by the party National Elections Board Chair Judith Pareno was unveiled after the party denied claims that it had settled on a former Cabinet Minister to contest.
Among them are a former minister and opposition leader Raila Odinga's close allies who are seasoned politicians.
They include former Cabinet Minister Ochilo Ayacko, former Nyatike MP Edick Anyang'a, businessman Eddy Oketch, former Rongo MP Dalmus Otieno, former Migori County Assembly Speaker Gordon Ogolla, academician Solomon Hodo, former University of Nairobi Students Chairman David Osiany and John Magaiwa.
The by-election for the Migori Senatorial post will be held following the death of Senator Ben Oluoch Okello who was buried at his Kanyimach village on July 9.
Pareno on Wednesday told KTN News that claims ODM has settled on Ayacko to carry its flag during the by-election were untrue.
"The party National Elections Board has not picked anyone yet, but what I can assure Kenyans is that we will not conduct a party primary to select a candidate. The NEB will directly pick one after wide consultations," she said.
