Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo on Friday said in a tweet that he had checked-in at the Wilson Airport from where he was to fly out of Nairobi from but was shocked to learn that the plane he and other travellers were to use had left.

The lawyer-cum politician, however, did not state where he was travelling to using Silverstone Airline.

"Silverstone Airline has become completely bogus! Leaving us at the Wilson Airport Lounge, without notification, after waiting for an hour! Complete with a Boarding Pass!" the MP wrote.

By the time of submission of this story, the airline had not either replied to the MP's tweet or made a formal apology to that effect.

Silverstone Airline is among local air travel firms plying the Nairobi-Mombasa, Nairobi-Kisumu and Mombasa-Kisumu routes.

The company recently launched direct flights from Mombasa-Kisumu in a lavish ceremony that involved giving free tickets to leaders from Kisumu and their families to fly for free from the lakeside town to Mombasa and back to Kisumu.

The routes the airline plies are the busiest routes in Kenya presently owing to the rising number of air travellers from Kenya's three largest towns - Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa.
