A section of Kisumu County residents have reacted angrily after the Auditor General's report indicated that the devolved unit used Sh3.7 million to purchase one dairy cow in May, 2017.
According to the report, the county administration used the amount to purchase one dairy cow during the 2017/2018 financial year.
The purchase was made during the reign of former Governor Jack Ranguma.
In multiple interviews at the Kibuye Market in Kisumu on Friday, area residents wondered how a single cow can cost Sh3.7 million.
“The person who bought a dairy cow for Sh3.7 million should be arrested and charged. This is open corruption,” said Simon Oron.
“Which kind of a cow is this that costs that kind of money? I would really like to see it,” said Alice Oduor.
Another resident went as far as revoking the name of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
“Raila Odinga has brought you County governments so what you do is to steal,” said the man who did not want to disclose his name.
Kisumu County Executive Committee (CEC) Member in charge of Agriculture Gilchrist Okuom has, however, dismissed claims that the said amount was used to purchase a single dairy cow.
He said the previous administration used the amount to buy 27 cows.
