The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has warned against the use of opposition leader Raila Odinga's name in the ongoing Migori senatorial campaigns.
Speaking to the Standard in Migori town on Wednesday, county party Chairman Philip Makabong'o warned the party rivals against using the former Premier's name and pictures in their campaign materials.
He noted that only the party candidate Ochilo Ayacko is allowed to do the same, cautioning against ongoing attempts to confuse voters using 'Baba's' name, as the leader enjoys a massive backing in the region.
"Only the party's candidate, Ochillo Ayacko, is allowed to use the name or image of our party leader. We will not allow them to use our party's leader's name or even the nickname to confuse the voters," he is quoted by the Standard.
He noted that Ayacko's rivals have since began engaging on the same, with Federal Party of Kenya candidate Eddy Oketch having two billboards in the county with the words 'wote wa baba' on them.
The same is the case with Peter Jobando of the Green Congress of Kenya who has also designed his posters with the word 'baba' on them.
Mackabong'o said that the party will write to to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to have the group cited for electoral offences and disqualified from the race.
“We are aware some aspirants have been using ODM and the name of our party leader to seek votes. We are watching them. No candidate should include Raila’s image in his posters,” he is further quoted
