The 2017 election battle between Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and former senator Omar Hassan was a tough one. They had to end up in court.
After an interesting tussle, ODM deputy chairperson emerged the winner to retain his gubernatorial slot. The man behind the team that marshaled this court victory was lawyer Mr. Mohammed Balala.
Mohammed is part of the Balala & Abed advocates, a firm he joined in 1999. According to hg.org, Balala has the following admirable traits compared to most lawyers in Kenya:
1. Cares about historical sites
Balala is a Thune Foundation trustee. This has given him an opportunity to contribute to the preservation of history because this private heritage and cultural trust deals with the preservation of world heritage sites including Lamu’s historical sites.
2. Schooled abroad
This great lawyer attended his undergraduate law studies at Queensland, Australia. He completed the studies in 1994. He also has interest in Oil and Gas and is schooling in this direction.
3. Cares about the environment
The lawyer also has a mark in the National Environmental Tribunal as a member. This is a statutory appeals tribunal on all environmental matters.
Previously, he served as chairperson of the Coast Chapter of the Law Society of Kenya, Mombasa Law Society.
