Most of the sentiments leaned towards maligning the Kalenjin community to look as if it is the most corrupt in Kenya. 

Consequently, a list circulating in social media paints a grim picture of the sheer number of Kalenjin heads of parastatals and government institutions. 

Among the names of those that have so far been accused of corruption includes former Kenya Power MD Ken Tarus, former Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Chief Executive Officer Dr Lily Koros, and Wilbert Kurgat, among others.

The corruption allegations facing several individuals from Deputy President William Ruto's community, Kalenjin, has not escaped the attention of Nandi Senator Cherargei Kiprotich who is now terming it as ethnic profiling. 

In a video shared on Twitter by a popular blogger Abraham Mutai, Cherargei, a close ally of DP Ruto asks the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji not to use corruption to ethnically profile people. 

“We will not allow you to ethnically profile, in bad faith, with vested political interests, and with politically motivated charges,” the youthful senator says in the video. 

Cherargei further accused institutions charged with fighting corruption of destroying the careers of those accused of corruption. 

The politics of 2022 did not escape from being mentioned either with the Jubilee lawmaker claiming that the fight against corruption was being motivated by 2022 succession politics. 

 “Don’t be used as a weapon for 2022 succession politics. We are watching you,” Cherargei said in a message that seemed to have been directed to the DPP, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
