Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya is serving his final term in office and is yet to hint on his possible successor when his term comes to an end in 2022.
The Kwale County boss has remained silent on his next political destination after 2022, a situation that is raising concerns among his supporters.
A close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, Mvurya was first elected in 2013 election on Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party ticket.
Mvurya later dumped the Raila Odinga led party in 2016 and joined Jubilee party before he won re-election in 2017 polls.
As the 2022 succession politics takes center stage, Mvurya’s political future remains uncertain.
Mvurya is however likely to champion for Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidency in the Coast region.
He is among veteran Coast politicians who can help Ruto or Jubilee presidential candidate win the region's votes.
A section of Kwale leaders allied to Jubilee party are also said to be fronting Mvurya as the party’s presidential running mate in 2022 polls.
The politicians want the Mvurya to deputize DP Ruto or any other candidate who will fly the Jubilee presidential ticket.
The Kwale governor is also likely to remain politically active as a section of Coast politicians push for formation of their own political outfit.
Kilifi governor Amason Kingi who is also serving his final term in office has reiterated the need for the Coast region to form its own party.
Mvurya is likely to play a big role should the politicians agree and form a political party ahead of 2022 polls.
The Kwale governor can also opt to retire from active politics but this is unlikely to happen owing to his influence in Coast politics.
The governor says that he is keen on leaving a good legacy for Kwale people.
According to Mvurya, he intends to complete all the development projects his administration initiated before the 2022 election.
On Tuesday the Kwale governor was elected as the new Coast region patron of the Kenya Primary Schools Head teachers Association (KEPSHA).
