Corruption has become the main hindrance to development in the country despite efforts by different government agencies to tame the vice.
One of the radical measures that have been proposed in the past by various leaders includes public execution of those convicted of graft.
But how effective and tenable will this be?
According to South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, Kenya's norms and culture play against such an undertaking to punish those convicted of graft.
"One, killing might not be effective in this country out of our humanity and Christian foundations," the MP said on live Facebook video which was hosted by blogger Albert Nyakundi Amenya alias the Banana Peddler.
Osoro further argued that the only person who ever signed to have a person eliminated was retired, President Daniel Moi.
Former President Mwai Kibaki had a huge file of many who were supposed to be eliminated but did not sign for that to happen.
He also opined that shooting dead will leave a bad taste in the mouth in regard to Kenya's commitment to upholding human rights.
The legislator stated that life imprisonment is a punishment that is good enough as it puts one behind bars.
He called on the government to have two or three people convicted of economic crimes such as corruption sentenced to life imprisonment to set an example to other corrupt officials.
