A woman in her early 60s from Etundubari village in Ebate area, Boisanga one in Nyamira County has gone into hiding after she was suspected to be a witch.
Alice Osebe was on Friday caught at her neighbour’s home at 10pm.
“Alice has been living alone after her husband died over suspected witchcraft. On Friday night she was found at her neighbour’s homestead only for her to pretend that she was drunk,” said area Nyumba Kumi chairman, Boniface Onditi.
Mr Onditi said the neighbour raised alarm to attract members of the public who stormed the homestead where Alice was found stranded.
“Upon questioning her said claimed that she lost her way to her home because she was drunk yet she did not even smell alcohol,” he noted.
Onditi said Alice was asked to surrender herself to area assistant chief’s office on Saturday for questioning but she never turned up.
He said locals who went to check on her at her home couldn’t find her as her house remained locked on Saturday.
Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba warned locals against witchcraft saying it is a barbaric practice which should come to an end.
