Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohammed has said that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) does not want President Uhuru Kenyatta's endorsement for Raila.
Speaking in Migori on Saturday, the outspoken legislator said that the head of state's endorsement would complicate matters for the ODM party leader.
He rebuffed claims by allies of Deputy President Dr William Ruto that leaders from Luo Nyanza had sought the president's endorsement for Raila during the funeral of Governor Anyang' Nyong'o's mother.
"Uhuru came to the the funeral of Anyang' Nyong'o and now they are saying that leaders of Nyanza want Uhuru to endorse Raila. We don't want an endorsement... We don't want an endorsement totally. An endorsement will spoil politics for us," he said.
(Sasa hapa juzi Uhuru ametembea kwa matanga ya Anyang' Nyong'o Sasa wanasema ati viongozi hapa Nyanza wanasema ati Uhuru aendorse Raila. Sisi hapana taka endorsement... Hapa taka endorsement kabisa. Sisi kuwa endorsed itatuharibia siasa kabisa)
In his second term, President Uhuru has remained silent on who he will support in the 2022 presidential election, a development that has not sat well with DP Ruto allies.
Uhuru shook hands with Raila Odinga in 2018 after months of political tensions and pledged to unite the country and steer off politics.
Since his new found amity with Raila, the question of who the president will support in 2022 for the presidency has become a matter of public speculation.
