Police officers in Keumbu, Nyaribari Chache in Kisii County with the help of local chiefs and Nyumba Kumi officials on Monday conducted a successful illicit brew crackdown and destroyed 2000 litres of illicit brews.
Confirming the incident Keumbu assistant county commissioner Joshua Muthoka assured that the war on illegal brew is ongoing.
"It is shocking that some residents are still engaging in dubious businesses despite efforts the government is making to fight illegal businesses. 2000 litres of the illicit brew was poured and containers destroyed at Irondi area," said Muthoka.
The police boss said the suspects escaped but, they are being traced to be arrested.
He challenged locals to engage in legal businesses.
"The government will not condone people who engage in illegal businesses. It is advisable for locals to venture in businesses which will not land them in trouble," he added.
Mr. Muthoka assured that the crackdown on illicit brew will be spread to other areas within the region to ensure offenders are nabbed and taken to court.
"Liquor has destroyed families in the area and therefore, for the sake of peace in families police, locals chiefs and Nyumba Kumi officials will continue with the crackdown until they sell, making and distribution of illicit brew is over," he added.
