Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has called upon Kenyans to ensure that only the best leaders are allowed into leadership positions in the fast approaching 2022 general elections.
Speaking on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha show on Tuesday morning, Mutua urged Kenyans to only settle on development-minded politicians and avoid power-hungry individuals.
He warned Kenyans against a group of politicians he claimed is currently going around the nation politicking and exchanging words and insults, terming them agents of unemployment.
"Wakenya wasiwachague hawa ambao kazi yao ni siasa na kutukanana na kutupiana maneno. Hawa tukiwachagua Kenya haitaenda popote (Kenyans must shun the group engaging in early politicking and exchanging words and insults. If we elect such leaders, we will not move forward as a country)," he said.
This was in reference to the Kieleweke and Tanga Tanga factions of the Jubilee party.
Opposition lawmakers and Deputy President William Ruto's allies have also been traversing the nation and engaging in verbal combat.
Mutua who has also declared his interest in the presidential seat come 2022 also called upon Kenyans to consider a new generation of politicians as they go to the polls in 2022.
He stressed on the need for the likes of opposition boss Raila Odinga, DP Ruto and Wiper chief Kalonzo Musyoka to retire and give room for fresh leadership.
"Akina Raila, Ruto and Musyoka wamefanya kazi njema lakini sasa tunahitaji a new generation ndio tusonge mbele (Raila, Ruto and Musyoka have done a good job but we now need a new generation of leaders to take us to the next level)," he said.
