A court case involving Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter has been postponed to next year after prosecutions documents went missing.
In the case, the outspoken legislator together with two co-directors of Desai Industries - Madat Chatur and Arthur Sakwa are facing several charges of forging treasury bills amounting to Sh633 million.
The three were arrested and charged on February 2018 and later released on an Sh2 million cash bail each after they denied charges.
Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Daniel Kariuki told Milimani Law Courts that 42 treasury bills were misplaced while things were being moved in the office but assured the court that the documents were not lost.
“The documents have just been misplaced but not lost, I am confident to say that we will locate them,” Karuri was quoted by the Standard.
Lawyer Kimutai Bosek who represented the accused termed the argument by the prosecution team as a waste of time and wanted the court to grant the prosecution only one hour to search and avail the ‘lost’ documents in court.
Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi, however, ruled that the case which was supposed to be heard on Monday will be mentioned on January 31, 2019.
