The latest to throw his weight behind the opposition-driven referendum push is Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany.

Speaking in his constituency on Tuesday, Kositany, a close ally of DP Ruto said he will be pushing to have issues that will help cut down on the country’ wage bill included in the referendum.

Among those issues include abolishing the 700 positions for the nominated Members of County Assembly (MCAs) as well as the Senate.

“We want to see which work of the Senate can be transferred to the National Assembly so that we completely remove those positions,” said Kositany.

The first-time legislator further wants a constitutional amendment to be done so as to allow the president to appoint his cabinet from Members of Parliament and also for the governor to appoint the County Executives (CeCs) from Members of County Assembly (MCAs).

“Even if there will be a need, constituencies should also be reduced. If we do this, there will be billions saved, enough to increase funds for devolution and CDF subsequently enhancing development at the grassroots,” noted the Jubilee MP who has already submitted a Bill that seeks to crap the Senate and nominated positions.
