The body of an elderly man was on Saturday morning found dumped in a tea plantation at Nyankoba bordering Kisii County and Nyamira.
The man who was identified to hail from Maburi Village, Birongo location in Kisii County was found by villagers lying down with severe injuries on the head, neck and legs.
Kefa Omai Birongo sub-chief said that he received a call informing him about a man from his area who had been found murdered in a tea plantation where he moved with the police to the scene.
"I was called and informed that a man from my area has been found dead at Nyankoba bordering Kisii and Nyamira. I called the police we went and confirmed it's true the elderly man comes from my area," he said.
Omai has called on the public to be calm as the police launch investigations to determine the exact cause of the bloody incident amid fears and outrage from residents.
"I urge the public to be calm. The police have launched investigations so that we can determine what happened and who did the inhuman act," he added.
The body of the deceased has been moved to Gucha mortuary.
