Speaking on Milele FM Wednesday morning, Barasa noted that President Uhuru Kenyatta must take caution on the opposition’s decision to back his proposal on petroleum products VAT.

He claimed that the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga-led side is out to weaken the government by misleading through weakening the economy.

This way, he insinuated, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)  will have a good excuse to campaign against it in the 2022 general polls.

‘’ODM ni upinzani na si kawaida upinzani kuunga serikali mkono. Hii ni njama ya kumaliza serikali (this is a plot to finish the ruling side),’’ advised the Jubilee member.

Barasa added that ODM is also out to punish Kenyans for not granting it leadership in the previous elections, hence its agreement to have them pay more in taxes.

‘’ODM ina njama ya kusambaratisha unchumi ili wakenya wajute kwa kutoiweka uongozini (ODM is also trying to punish Kenyans for not electing it into power),’’ he added.

The orange party came out with the decision after a Parliamentary Group meeting with Raila Tuesday morning.

ODM pledged to back Uhuru’s proposal for a period of one year, after which the government must establish separate modes of acquiring the needed funds.
