A local pastor in Kegati, Nyaribari Chache constituency in Kisii County was on Thursday forced to run for his dear life after angry locals armed with crude weapons chased him from the village.
It is alleged that the pastor, Joel Oroo attempted to sell a piece of land belonging to late brother's children.
Henry Nyang'au area chief confirmed the incident saying the pastor brought a buyer on Thursday to visit the land when locals who have been laying a trap on him pounced on him.
"Joel brought a buyer to buy land. While he was negotiating with the buyer, angry villagers armed with crude weapons stormed the land and the two had to scamper for safety," said the chief.
He said Oroo refused to take custody of the orphans left behind after their parents died.
Joshua Muthoka, the area police boss, condemned the pastor saying he should be the first one to safeguard the future of his late brother's children.
"I urge residents to stop grabbing land belonging to orphans. Pastor Joel could be a past tense by now. He was lucky he escaped with his buyer," said Muthoka.
Muthoka said the pastor has since gone into hiding.
