President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced the extension of Huduma Namba registration.

"I have directed the National Inter-ministerial Committee for implementation of this programme to extend the registration period for another 1 week. In this regard, therefore, the exercise will effectively close on Saturday, 25th May 2019 at 6.00pm, " Uhuru said through State House Kenya Facebook page, Friday.

The President said that Huduma Namba registration for Kenyans in the diaspora Uhuru revealed Diaspora  June 20 this year having commenced on May 6. 

"I encourage each and every Kenyan to become a part of this momentous change that will help to positively transform government delivery services for the benefit of all citizens," added Uhuru.

The President gave an extension after beckoning pleas from several quarters who asked the government to give an extension.

Mid this week, a tough-talking Interior CS Fred Matiang'i said there would be no extension once the drive came to a close on Friday, May 17.

The Huduma Namba mass registration kicked off in April. According to the head of state, 400 ICT officers, 8,000 registration officers and 42, 000 registration assistants were deployed.

In the last one week, registration centres have been punctuated by long queues of Kenyans registering.
