In recent weeks, President Uhuru Kenyatta has promised stiff actions against those implicated, warning that 'even his closest political allies won't be spared'.

However, with the State blaming the Judiciary for sluggishness in the prosecution of corruption-related cases, Mr Chepkut, a close ally of DP William Ruto, says the poor could turn against the rich.

"A time is coming when the poor will have nothing left to eat except the rich. That time is coming; it is coming fast. Everyone has a breaking point. We must not push the poor to that point. We'll regret it. We'll not survive it," he said.

On Tuesday, hundreds of Kenyans pitched tent at Uhuru Park in Nairobi, holding peaceful demonstrations against the runaway corruption reported in the country.

Activist Boniface Mwangi took to his social media to blast Kenyans, accusing them of failing to turn out at the hour of need. He has been among those pushing for prosecution of those involved in graft.

"Those who wait for others to protest on your behalf as you make noise online, @BettieWaShiro was arrested at #BeyondZeroCorruption protest. She is been denied bail. Come to Central Police we occupy until she is released," he wrote.

Deputy President William Ruto has previously expressed reservations on the ongoing graft purge, arguing that it's politically instigated. According to the DP's allies, the State is keen to sabotage his 2022 presidential elections.
