Reuben Rogoi, Josphat Gacheru and John Mapesa were charged that on May 16, they fraudulently acquired 800 pieces of bibles using a fake cheque.

They reportedly defrauded Faith Mawia Mulunga at the Bible Translation and Literacy offices in Upper Hill Nairobi and produced a fake cheque to cover the Sh920, 000 cost.

Appearing before Milimani Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi, they were also charged for attempting to use a fake cheque, purportedly from the Cooperative Bank, Maasai Branch.

The trio was also charged with planning to commit a felony and reportedly had in their possession a red Toyota Fielder with registration number KCH 596A.

The prosecution told the court that the three wanted to use the vehicle to carry the bibles. They denied all charges and pleaded to be released on bond.

"Your honour, I submit that my clients are sole breadwinners of their respective families. As such, we apply for very lenient bond and bail terms,” their lawyer pleaded with the court.

They were released on Sh200, 000 cash bail with an option of Sh500, 000 bond each with the case set to be heard on July 1.
