Two people have died after allegedly drinking an illicit brew in Soy, Uasin Gishu County, on Tuesday.
The deceased and four others who are in critical condition drank the brew named 'Koroga' in Ziwa, Ketotet village.
The deaths were confirmed by Soy OCPD Alex Mwaura who said that his officers are investigating the matter.
He said that the police are also pursuing the owner of the drinking den and all other involved persons.
“We have received the report of the two deaths after allegedly drinking local brew, investigations have commenced. We will take action against those involved once the investigations are concluded,” he said as quoted by Nation.
Area Nyumba Kumi leader said that the group was found writhing in pain inside the house after consuming the alcohol, he added that the house is called 'Kwa Mama Pima'.
The four are recuperating at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) where they were rushed by locals.
Area residents also accused police of being noncommittal on wiping out the illicit brew menace.
They blamed the rampant production of liquor in the region for lack of productivity, saying that young men are wasting all their time in drinking dens and abdicating their roles.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to the MTRH mortuary.
