The governor of Narok County Samuel Tunai has broken his silence on the Mau evictions.
Speaking to members of the press on Friday, the county boss called for dialogue in order to resolve the outstanding issues.
Governor Tunai called on the government to put a stop to the evictions to allow for constructive engagement by all parties.
"We are going to have further consultations for further meetings so that as I have said we will want to see how this issue is resolved once and for all, " the Narok governor said.
Tunai said that his administration would support an approach to the Mau controversy that leads to a win-win situation.
His intervention comes amid strong opposition from a section of Rift Valley leaders who have called on the government to stop implementing its evacuation plan.
Led by Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen, the leaders have warned that pushing the settlers out of the forest would result in a humanitarian catastrophe.
The government through the Ministry of Environment maintains that the evictions will go on as planned, asking the settlers to move or risk being pushed out.
There were indications that that directive was being heeded albeit unwillingly.
Proponents of the Mau eviction say that pushing out people living in the important water catchment area will go along way in conserving it.
