Armed gangsters on Wednesday night attacked an M-Pesa shop in Athi River, Mavoko sub-county and made away with Sh200,000.
The incident took place at around 7pm according to Athi River sub-county police commander Salim Komora who confirmed the incident.
Speaking during an exclusive interview, Kamora noted that the gangsters entered the M-Pesa shop located at Makadara Shopping Centre and ordered the attendant to lie down.
"They made away with Sh200,000 and a Neon phone worth Sh3,500 from the M-Pesa shop at Nyambura stage, Makadara Shopping Centre," he said.
The police boss said that the three shot in the air to scare away residents before disappearing into the darkness.
He said that the matter was reported by the agent at the station. No casualties were reported during the incident.
Komora further noted that no suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. He, however, said that police have commenced their investigations into the incident.
The police commander issued a warning to gangsters, promising to tame crime in Athi River.
He advised M-Pesa attendants to ensure they close their business by 6pm for security reasons.
“Those operating both M-Pesa agents and general shops should close by 6pm. Remove all the money and continue selling other goods as police step up security operations,” said Komora.
This comes barely a week after gangsters stole money from an M-Pesa shop in Kwa Mang'eli.
