Constituents of Bonchari have claimed that Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has failed to honour a promise he made when a fire broke at Suneka market several months ago.
The locals led by Albert Onkundi on Monday claimed that Ongwae has failed to keep his promises.
“Ongwae promised that Suneka market will be upgraded by constructing good stalls for traders to use after a fire reduced the market into ashes several months ago. Nothing has been done until today yet we are paying daily taxes to the country government of Kisii which is being led by Ongwae," lamented Onkundi.
He decried that this is happening even as the county continues to lose money through corrupt dealings.
Onkundi said Bonchari residents voted for Ongwae but has ignored them.
Geoffrey Manoti, a trader at the market stated that Ongwae’s government will not fulfill any promise made during the last year’s polls.
“We should not expect anything from Ongwae’s government since he has given priority to his home people in Kitutu Chache North. We elected a failure as governor,” he noted.
He said the Ongwae promised to relocate sewage from Bonchari but, nothing is going on in regard to this.
Josephine Onsombi, a tomato vendor claimed that customers have stopped buying from them due to the dilapidated state of the market especially during this period the area is experiencing heavy rains.
“We have nothing to celebrate about Ongwae because he promised to construct modern stalls after fire broke at the market. We have never seen any officer from the county coming to the market to tell us when the stalls will be constructed. Ongwae is a liar who should be ignored,” she noted.
The locals were speaking at Suneka market on Monday evening.
