Kenyan has continued to lag behind in terms of development because of poor leadership and massive runaway graft, Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has said.
Speaking during an exclusive interview on KTN News’ Point Blank show on Wednesday, the vocal lawyer said that President Uhuru Kenyatta has to step up in the fight to end graft before his term comes to an end.
He noted that corruption is among the major challenges this nation has been facing over decades. He noted that lack of commitment from the side of the government is partly to blame for the loss of public resources to leaders who lack the goodwill.
He urged the President, who is completing his second and final term in office, to stand up and ensure graft is fought from all fronts before it is too late.
The lawyer, who has been very vocal on matters of national interest, said that most leaders lack the goodwill in the war against the looting of what belongs to the tax payer.
He noted that unless the Uhuru revives the call for lifestyle audit, he is not likely to leave behind any legacy before he departs office.
He also called for the audit of ownership of about 120 helicopters at Wilson Airport. He further reminded the commander in chief of the armed forces to begin with the cabinet before making any move.
“Let him (Uhuru) start with his Cabinet and say, this is your asset, and this is your salary … and you do not have a rich father. How did you acquire it?” he said, as quoted by Standard.
Uhuru has, however, maintained that he is committed to end graft.
