Residents of Otamba village in Masongo sub-location are mourning the death of a 21-year-old man who was killed by his father over land inheritance on Sunday night.

Confirming the incident, area chief, Erick Ondere said the suspect, Maurice Moruye killed his son, Michael Moruye over a land dispute. 

"Michael arrived home on Sunday night drunk and asked his father to give him his portion of land so that he can sell and buy a motorbike. Maurice rejected his son's proposal picked an axe and hit the son on the forehead," said the chief. 

The chief said the deceased collapsed and his mother screamed for help. 

"Neighbors responded to the screams and took the deceased to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival," said Ondere.

He said the suspect was arrested on Monday morning and he is being held at Kisii Central police station from where he will be taken to court on Tuesday. 

The administrator said the deceased body was moved to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.  

He urged parents to control their temper whenever they will be offended by their children especially sons demanding land inheritance. 

Ondere urged youths to stop depending on their parents wealth but, instead work hard to earn a living from their sweat.
