Mombasa County's bid to host the International Desalination Association (IDA) World Congress received a major boost after a delegation from the IDA toured the county to assess the suitability of Mombasa as a preferred host for the 2021 congress.
Mombasa has been shortlisted alongside other 3 cities as the preferred hosts for the prestigious convention.
Just a month the County Government commissioned the desalination exercise of water source in an effort to address the perennial issue of water shortages.
"Our intention is to improve assess to clean and fresh water to every household in Mombasa," said Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi who hosted the delegation on Friday.
He said hosting the World IDA Congress 2021 will be a great boost to the county's efforts as it will expose to emerging trends in desalination as well as provide a platform to learn from the experiences across the globe.
Mombasa in recent times has hosted major world events latest being the World SKAL conference 2018."This and other experiences acquired in hosting similar world events therefore should offer the needed confidence in our ability to satisfactorily host a world convention.
"As the Committee retreats to select the host, it is our hope that the 2021 congress shall be held in Mombasa. We are up to the task," he added.
