Raila has over the past few weeks discouraged such, accusing politicians of using fundraisers to launder proceeds of corruption by sharing a portion of it with the public.

On Saturday, however, the Senator presided over a fundraiser towards the construction of a boys dormitory and water system at Wakula Mixed Secondary School in Mfangano Island, Homa Bay County.

"Education is the passport to the future. It is the premise of progress in every society. I presided over a fundraiser for the construction of a boys' dormitory and water system for Wakula Mixed Secondary School in Mfangano Island," Orengo wrote on Facebook.

Also present was Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo, area senator Moses Kajwang', Raila's aide Silas Jakakimba, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Suba North MP Millie Mabona.

Migori Senator Ochilo Ayacko arrived at the event on a chopper with Orengo.

In late April, Orengo again presided over a fundraiser at the Rangala Catholic Church in Siaya, alongside Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, shortly after Raila urged the church to reject politicians' contributions.
