With opposition leader Raila Odinga openly headed towards political retirement and is expected to in a few years hand his boots, all leaders from the region would obviously want to take after him and are keen on taking over as the Luo kingpin.
But only two of these seems to stand out and well qualified to fit in his boots, these being his close confidant and Siaya Senator James Orengo and Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o.
Both being long-time politicians and well known for their political campaigns and loyalty to Raila, it will be super hard for the Luo nation to decide who to back once the time comes.
It will equaly be hard for Raila to pick one of them without being seen as bias, as both have been with him long enough to deserve his endorsement, making his exit the start of a battle for the region.
Putting both on the beam-balance, none seems to outweigh the other as while Orengo stands out as a skilled counsel who has brought the community massive fame and honor, Nyong’o gave it a daughter, Lupita Nyong’o, who has won the Oscar Award, making it proud globally.
On education, both leaders are on their top and while Orengo is famed for his legal prowess, Nyong’o has made a name for himself as a world known professor, further complicating the succession process.
Unless the two decide among themselves on who will take after Ruto, the tough decision making process might throw the community into rivalry between supporters of the two parties, also resulting to rivalry between the leaders, a scenario that is better avoided.
