Former Lagdera MP Farah Maalim now wants MPs who allegedly took bribes to shoot down a report on contraband sugar investigated, charged and recalled from office.
Maalim says that the allegations of bribery in Parliament are grave and must be thoroughly investigated.
He said that any MP implicated in the bribery should resign as they wait for arrest and prosecution.
Speaking on KTN News on Monday, Maalim said that MPs are shaming Kenyans.
He said that Parliament as an institution has to hold integrity of the highest order.
“MPs should be leading as the example and it shameful that they are allegedly demanding and receiving bribes,” the former MP said.
Maalim asked the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to launch probe into the claims.
He said that the legislators are setting a bad record and that those who took bribes have to be dealt with.
Maalim noted that claims of bribery in Parliament taints the ongoing fight against corruption.
Some MPs are on the spot over allegations of taking bribes to oppose the sugar report that was tabled in Parliament Thursday last week.
The MPs are allegedly said to have pocketed Sh10, 000 to oppose the report that indicted some Cabinet Secretaries in the sugar saga.
The speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi has since asked the EACC, DCI and NIS to probe the matter.
The former deputy speaker also wants MPs who have been quoted saying that they witnessed the alleged bribing to come forward and give evidence.
