Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has ruled out the possibility of the country conducting a referendum this year.

According to Duale, alot of activities have been planned for this year and it might not be possible to accomodate a referendum.

Speaking to journalists in Garissa Town on Monday, Duale said those propagating to have a referendum this year are not being realistic.

According to the Garissa legislator, it will be proper if the referendum is conducted later.

The vocal Garissa legislator says that referendum can come later, noting that  Jubilee government should be given space to actualize its development agenda to Kenyans.

He said that President Uhuru Kenyatta's government need ample time to deliver on the Big Four development agenda.

The Garissa Town legislator also cited the planned August census, noting that it is the priority now.

He said that majority Kenyans would not want a referendum this year.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has hinted that referendum could be conducted this year.

Raila says that the plebscite to change the country's governance structure is unstoppable.

The plebscite debate continues to gain momentum as majority politicians support it.

Some politicians are rooting for a parliamentary system of governance.

The Building Bridges committee that was formed after the famous handshake is currently collecting views on the proposed plebscite.
