Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has poked holes into Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
Speaking to the Sunday Standard, Wambugu faulted Ruto for 'over-believing' in himself, adding that his pride will cost him the top seat.
He accused the DP of doing 'retail politics' and surrounding himself with 'financially malleable' politicians rather than Kenyans.
He said that the latter has failed to mobilize Kenyans support and is now banking on his allies to penetrate the electorate which will fail.
"Ruto is an extra-ordinary politician but he thinks he can make himself president. Rather than build a team at national level he is doing ‘retail’ politics; using financially malleable leaders in each community to go directly to voters in those communities and hope he can directly convince them to support him in 2022," he said.
The lawmaker added that Ruto's blackmail and threats mode of politicking will only render him a loser.
Wambugu advised the DP to accept the fact that leaders are made by others and do not create themselves.
He termed this the reason why Ruto has been experiencing an increase in political enemies lately, some from his Jubilee Party.
These include Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe and former Mukurweini lawmaker Kabando Wa Kabando.
Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli and nominated Member of Parliament Maina Kamanda have also since doubted his presidency.
"This is the same thing people like Murathe, Kabando, Atwoli, Kabogo and Kamanda are saying to Ruto," he added.
