According to Khalwale, being broke was a personal issue which did not warrant one to quit from serving the electorate at that time.

NTV updated the live interview with Khalwale and other leaders in their official Facebook on Tuesday morning.

Khalwale took issue with Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo's claims that he (Otiende) had been broke since he entered parliament.

The Kakamega ex-senator argued that it was a common phenomenon to find a good number of broke  Kenyans out there.

"Otiende said he is broke from the time he became a member of parliament," argued Khalwale.

Furthermore, he noted that people choose to be broke, including lawmakers and that should not necessarily affect the delivery of their constitutional mandates.

"You see, if he is broke, so what? There are so many Kenyans who are broke. Being broke is a personal issue. We are not going to drag our personal issues into how we manage the affairs of the public," said the former Kakamega senator.

The former Ikolomani legislator alleged that they never contemplated leaving parliament for being broke because it was a personal problem.

He further observed, "We have been faithfully in parliament for many years and we have never imagined of resigning for being broke."

He concurred with a viewer's sentiments who had tweeted that Rarieda MP should resign if he was tired of serving the electorate and a by-election be conducted.
