Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has revealed that he betrayed his Jubilee Party in the 2017 elections by throwing his weight behind an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) aspirant.

Speaking on JKL on Wednesday night, Sonko said that he spent millions of shillings to fund County Woman Representative Esther Passaris of the ODM party.

This, however, came at a time when President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee had fielded former seat holder, Rachel Shebesh.

Sonko said that he almost stopped spending on Passaris when he, at some point, caught her trying to steal from her using ODM leader Raila Odinga's name.

"I funded her campaigns with millions of shillings and at some point, I wasn't happy with her because she tried to swindle me using Baba's (Raila) name," he said.

Sonko, however, cleared Raila of blame in the alleged swindling attempt staged by Passaris, saying that he knows the former Prime Minister well, and he cannot be involved in such.

"Baba is my friend, he never asks for money from politicians," he added.

The two have not been in good terms lately, a fact that played out publicly when they clashed on Saturday during the Madaraka Day celebrations in Nairobi.

The event took the wrong turn when Passaris took to the podium to question Sonko's leadership and usage of funds, claiming that he has been ignoring her calls.

When he took the stage, Sonko bashed the Woman Rep,  leading to Passaris walking out in protest.
