Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana became allies in 2017 when the latter was issued with a direct ticket to contest for the gubernatorial seat.

However, the duo's friendship began shaking after Kibwana teamed up with his two counterparts from Kitui and Machakos counties, governors Charity Ngilu and Alfred Mutua respectively.

Kalonzo's 2022 presidential bid was threatened after two Ukambani governors came out to claim they will vie for the presidency.

On Thursday at Kwa Kathoka in Makueni County, Kibwana relinquished his seat as Wiper chairman and asked Kalonzo to assign another person for the seat.

What's more and heartwrenching is that he said he will not be forced to support any leader.

"I won't be forced to support anyone without consulting my people first," Kibwana said.

Kibwana said some Wiper leaders have been hurling insults at him telling him to remember that Kalonzo saved his political career in 2017 when he had begun losing favor with his people.

The governor's statement that he won't be forced to support Kalonzo will be like a dagger to the latter's heart since he endured criticism for offering Kibwana a direct ticket to secure Makueni for Wiper.

Kibwana said the party lacks democracy and people are being forced to follow a certain narrative, something he won't adhere to.

However, the question remains, will Kibwana's exit from Wiper have any impact?
