A Deputy Governor allied to ODM party has claimed that cases of land grabbing in Gusii region are at the peak.
Kisii Deputy governor Joash Maangi while speaking on Friday when hosting officials drawn from the Ministry of Lands and Physical planning led by CS Farida Karoney, said urgent measures should be put to curb land grabbing.
"The rate at which public land is being grabbed in Gusii region that is in Nyamira and Kisii counties is high. Efforts should be made to ensure land grabbers are not penetrating into the region," he noted.
Maangi while pointing out a case where orphans in Masimba were being forced out from their land by a police officer and a Bungoma county worker, said it's an indication that land grabbing is slowly returning to Gusii region.
He challenged officers working at Nyamira and Kisii land offices to step up efforts to nab land grabbers.
"Forgery of land titles must end. Officers working in the land offices should produce cartels who have forged documents to claim ownership of land illegally," he added.
Maangi said during the meeting with land officials issues touching on public land, land encroachment, land grabbing, land Fraud, survey, land registration were discussed.
