Members of Parliament on Wednesday showered praises to former University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor George Magoha, insisting that he's the right man to take over the education docket.

President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated the distinguished surgeon to the cabinet and he has already been cleared by the Committee of Appointment under the leadership of Speaker Justin Muturi.

MPs on the other hand, had little time debating Prof Magoha's suitability, with most of them saying the decision was the best ever to be taken by President Uhuru Kenyatta in the recent past.

“I have no doubt he is going to succeed. We don’t want Cabinet Secretaries who have no experience,” Dr Chris Wamalwa of Saboti said.

Seme MP James Nyikal termed the nominee a committed professional with high standards of integrity.“His no-nonsense stance may sometimes be seen as arrogance but when he is wrong, he accepts his mistakes,” Dr Nyikal said.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino described Prof Magoha as a firm leader who gives people a second chance.“For our girls and boys to get quality education and grow up as God-fearing students, Prof Magoha must the Cabinet Secretary for Education. This the best decision President Kenyatta has ever made,” Mr Owino.

Apparently, Prof Magoha was the Vice Chancellor at UoN when Mr Babu Owino was the SONU chairman. The two had close working relationship before the former left for KNEC.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to swear in Prof Magoha, who will take over from Amina Mohammed. Ms Mohammed was moved to Youth and Gender docket which was previously held by Rashid Echesa.
