A 27-year-old man was fined Sh5,000 after he admitted to seducing a married woman.
The incident occurred at Keumbu market, Nyaribari Chache in Kisii County on Thursday.
Amos Abea who is a bodaboda rider was accused of seducing Colleta Ogeto, a trader at Keumbu market.
Area Nyumba Kumi Chairman Robert Nyarang'o said Mrs Ogeto reported the matter to them.
"The woman complained to me about Abea's efforts to have sexual relations with her and she feared that if her husband finds out, she will be chased away so she asked me to warn him to leave her alone," said Nyarang'o.
"I asked Abea to meet the elders and he agreed not knowing he had a case to answer. Appearing before the elders he admitted that he has been trying to woo Colleta. He, however, noted that she was yet to accept his proposal," he added.
According to Nyarang'o, Abea begged for forgiveness but the elders fined him Sh5,000 as punishment.
Andrew Ongoro, one of the elders, lauded Colleta for refusing to have an extramarital affair with Abea.
"Women should follow Colleta's example for the sake of realising strong marriages," said Ongoro.
Area chief Henry Nyang'au warned Abea against seducing married women.
