This comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta's revelation that 5,000 ghost police officers were weeded out during the pilot phase of the National Integrated Identification Management System (NIIMS).

Speaking in Machakos on Tuesday during the launch of the Huduma Namba registration exercise, the Head of State revealed that NIIMS has saved the taxpayers Sh1.7 billion annually which would have been paid as salaries to the ghost officers.

According to Uhuru, the National Police Service had 1,447 ghost workers, 153 in the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and 1,048 in the Administration Police.

Murkomen has now urged EACC to move with speed to also weed out ghost workers at the county level.

"Considering Huduma number saved the country lots of resources paid to ghost policemen, we certainly need it to get rid of ghost workers in counties. With the President’s confession, EACC should move with speed and investigate all those who were being paid Sh1.8 billion a year and bring them to justice," he tweeted.

Uhuru also noted that the exercise will be carried out at the Kenya Prisons Service.

“Next we will be moving to Kenya Prisons and the entire civil service,” said Uhuru.
