Schools in Garissa and Kisii County are said to be collecting money so that they give candidates examination papers ahead of the exam period next month.

Kenya National Examinations Council chairman George Magoha said that two schools in Garissa are being monitored closely after it emerged that teachers were colluding with parents to try to cheat in the coming examinations.

Mr Magoha said the schools are collecting money from parents during prayers day as he reiterated that schools should not conduct prayers or allow visits during the third term.

The professor said the education ministry together with the police are investigating claims that there are some unscrupulous people who are asking parents to contribute money to buy examination questions.

The chairman appealed to parents and students not to be misled or duped into buying fake national examination papers.

“In some of the cases, especially in Kisii and Garissa, some principals are collecting money from parents during the prayers promising access to examination papers. The Council wishes to advise the candidates not to be cheated into looking at these fake papers,” he added.
