The taxpayer has parted ways with billions of shillings to facilitate the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

According to the Standard, the officials manning the exams earn between 6, 300 and 18, 000 shillings a day in allowances.

The group involves top government officials who have been dispatched to supervise the month-long exercise, among them Cabinet Secretaries (CSs), Principal Secretaries (PSs) and Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs).

Also involved in the same are departmental heads, in a process that has attracted ten CSs led by Education CS Amina Mohammed.

Staff accompanying the officials are as well entitled to an allowance.

Officials from the National Parents Association, special schools heads, their primary school counterparts, officials from the Kenya Union of Teachers (KNUT) officials and Private Schools Association are also involved.

According to the Standard, close to 1000 officials are involved in the annual exercise which started on October 30.

Supervisors manning exams in urban centres pocket between Ksh 6, 300 and 18, 200 with their colleagues in rural centres earn between Ksh 4, 900 -Ksh12, 600 or Ksh 4, 200-Ksh10, 500.

In the full budget of Ksh 4.2 billion allocated for the realisation of the exams, 2 billion is set to be paid to teachers marking the exams and another 1 billion for security invigilators, centre managers and supervisors.
