Were has been accused of leading a group of youths who attacked and injured Kenneth Jabuya last month.

In his defence, he said that though he was at the hotel, he did not take part in assaulting Jabuya.

He also rubbished claims that he has been hiding from the police saying that he has been discharging his duties from his office as always.

“They claim Hon Were is hiding from the police, how is that possible when I am being guarded by police officers themselves? If they want to arrest me it won’t take them even an hour,” he said in a rejoinder.

Were now claims that a group of political opponents are out to soil his name, and are using such claims in a bid to outdo him ahead of the 2022 general elections.

He urged police to move with speed to investigate the matter and another previous incident where area ODM chair James Ndege was attacked in Oyugis town.

Were implicated former East Kamagak MCA Sam Okumu in the incidents, and wants him probed.

"There are reports linking a former MCA to the chaos and we want detectives to probe the matter further so that our people can know who planned the unfortunate fracas," he said.

The attack on Jabuya left one of the attackers; Jerry Okiso dead and another; Lamon Okoth injured but he has since left the hospital.
