A widowed woman is nursing injuries inflicted to her by a man after she turned down his proposal to inherit her.
The incident happened on Tuesday at Mache-Achumbi in Nyaribari Chache, Kisii County.
Neighbors said Meldah Mong'ina was attacked by James Oroto who stormed her house at 7 pm.
"Mong'ina was in her kitchen cooking supper when Oroto arrived armed with a wooden block and started beating her claiming that she unfairly turned down his inheritance proposal," said Florence Kwamboka.
Ms. Florence said it took the intervention of community policing officials to stop the man from beating the widow.
"Were it not for the community policing officials Mong'ina could be at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Oroto was clobbered by angry members of the public before he was surrendered to the area chief," she noted.
A local administrator Sylvanus Ombui said it was shameful for Oroto to force himself on the woman.
"Mong'ina is still mourning the death of her husband. I'm shocked that Oroto wants to inherit her even before some grass grows on her husband's grave," said Ombui.
Ombui said he won't condone men to continue beating women in the area.
"Oroto will be taken to court to be charged over the assault," he stated.
He assured that the victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
